Ancient Greece was truly a place that started the foundation
for the modern-day world. For starters, today in class we learned that in 508
BCE democracy was born in Greece and that polis which is also known as a
city-state inspired modern day cities/countries. Ancient Greece is arguably one
of the most important ancient civilizations because of how many techniques and
teachings people use today.
Along with just things Greece did
as a whole, Socrates who lived in ancient Greece was a philosopher who changed
and taught teaching ways. Socrates would meet with children in different
workshops and in order to teach them, he had a method of asking the students
questions to extend the depth of their knowledge. By asking the children
questions, they would have to think deeper and would have to prove/disapprove their
thoughts. The processes that they would go through would make the new
information stick better and last longer. Personally, I wish that teachers
would teach like this and always ask follow up questions for me to elaborate on
the topic. This would allow me to answer my own questions I many have on the
topic and I will be able to actually have the information last. Sometimes I feel
like half of what I learned in school slips my mind by the very next day and
that definitely is not good. Socrates had a method to his interesting teaching
way and it would be very helpful if more teachers followed his ways.
