Elbert Hubbard’s essay titled “A Letter to Garcia,” truly is
a piece that will speak to everyone because it reveals to people just how
valuable it is to constantly be a hard worker who doesn’t complain. In Hubbard’s
mind, teaching about the history of Rowan’s treacherous journey involving delivering
a letter to General Garcia was the least important thing that he wanted to
communicate. Hubbard found it to be more valuable to learn about the importance
of working hard even when no one is watching and not complaining. In the actual
essay itself, Hubbard very briefly mentions the events of the journey, instead
he focuses on how Rowan just took the letter and did not ask questions or
complain.
Hubbard’s
essay not only applies to my high school career, but it applies to any job or
task I will ever be given. He is constantly focusing on how much more
beneficial it is to just get the job done even if no one is watching. Based off
of just what Hubbard said, taking initiative and actually doing the job is the
most rewarding thing you could ever do. As I begin my high school career, I
will now be able to think back to this essay and see how powerful it is to
always do what I should be doing without anyone watching and I should always
complete the task to the absolute best of my ability. There is definitely a
reward meant just for my mind that comes with doing everything that I should be
doing.
Very good analysis, Sydney! You're off to a good start.
